Van is the absolute best!
Van is awesome. She's done bridal alterations for my cousin, my sister, and two of my friends. For me, she's done alterations on 3 bridesmaid dresses and countless everyday items.
What sets Van apart from everyone else is that she REALLY cares about the quality of her work and making you look good. She doesn't like to take any shortcuts.
When I thought she moved out of state a few months ago, I almost freaked out. Finally, it was my turn to get married and I thought, "Of all the things I need to do, at least I have a good seamstress!" Then I learned she was no longer at her shop in Los Gatos. MAJOR SADNESS!!! I couldn't bear the thought of risking my bridal alterations on a stranger. Thank goodness, a friend of mine heard through the grapevine that she's still in the Bay Area. YAY!!!
Needless to say, I called her up and quickly brought over my wedding dress and several other items. I had bought my Vera Wang at a sample sale so it needed some help. 1) It had to be taken in about 2 sizes, adjusting several seams. 2) The existing bone wasn't strong/nice enough, so it needed reinforced boning. 3) The complicated 3 layer hem needed to be taken up. 4) The neckline needed fixing because I'm "top light" so the fabric wasn't laying quite right. 5). It needed the bustling done.
In record time she did all of the above. I thought I was coming to pick up some pants that were hemmed, but she surprised me by having my dress ready for a fitting!! The best part though is how she just has great intuition about dresses. The back of my dress can theoretically lace all the way to the bottom (it looks better than it sounds). However, I didn't know if it was supposed to form a "V" or not. Van suggested that it go straight. That was such a great call on her part. After trying both looks, I agreed. And at the fitting, I know it was the absolute right call.
I didn't have the "Omg, I'm really a going to be a bride" moment when I first bought my dress or the "This is THE dress" revelation. But when I tried on my dress at the surprise fitting, gosh dang it, I think I might have thought both those things. I just know the dress made me pretty flippin' happy. :)

Van is awesome. She saved my botched dress and was able to do my alterations right before the wedding. Did not charge me extra, even though the steaming took hours. Excellent job, competitive rates.
